Boundaries for Regional Care Organizations Will Take Effect Oct. 1

The delivery system for Alabama Medicaid services will shift from fee-for-service to a managed care plan, with regional care organizations contracting with the state to provide patient care by Oct. 1, 2016. Medicaid has proposed five regions with one regional care organization in each region. The region boundaries will be set by Oct. 1 of this year. Localities Need to Opt-In to Tax Holiday

Local Governments Have Until July 2 to Join State Tax Holiday

Alabama will observe its eighth annual back-to-school sales tax holiday from 12:01 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, until midnight, Sunday, Aug. 4. During the tax holiday weekend, the state's four percent sales or use tax on purchases of certain clothing, school supplies, books and computers isn't added to the price. Local governments can exempt their sales taxes as well, making the savings even greater and more enticing for the consumer. Local governments must notify the state of their participation by July 2. E-Fairness Focus Moves to U.S. House

Tell Alabama Congressional Delegation to Support Marketplace Fairness Act

On May 6, the U.S. Senate, including Alabama Sens. Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions, approved the Marketplace Fairness Act. Send Alabama's representatives an e-mail now and ask them to join Alabama's senators and vote yes on S. 743 and/or H.R. 684, when this pivotal legislation reaches the U.S. House. The retail community has united behind the legislation that calls for a level playing field for all retailers when it comes to collecting sales taxes.
