Deadlines are approaching for local governments to decide to go sales-tax-free during the state's two upcoming tax holidays. From July 6 to July 8,  Alabama shoppers can buy common emergency supplies tax free. A month later, from Aug. 3 to Aug. 5, they can purchase certain clothing, computers, school supplies and books tax free. Those items will be free of the state's four percent sales tax everywhere in the state. If local governments opt into the tax holidays, shoppers can save up to 10 percent on the covered items, depending on where they shop. Local governing bodies have to vote to participate in the tax holidays by a certain deadline. Learn more at read more.
